Heading to Pompano Beach in a couple weeks and wondered if anyone was from that area and aware of a place to get in some jujitsu training. If not, I’ll be forced to just nap on the beach. Thanks.

A quick search on Google Maps brought up this promising possibility: Pablo Popovitch’s BJJ Center in Fort Lauderdale (bjjcenter.com). Any thoughts?

Hey Treywhit. I am not too familiar with that area. i wonder if trainbjj.com or bjjmap.com has any info? (I will be doing some coverage of those sites soon in The FightWorks Podcast).

I don’t know crap about the area, however, seeing as how we’re on the subject of BJJ training facilities in particular areas, I’d like to know if anybody knows of any BJJ training facilities in or relatively close to Iowa. I figure that you two, being BJJ practitioners as you are, that you would know a thing or two about BJJ and its training facilities. I’ve been really interested in learning BJJ for quite some time now. I’m already pretty good with submissions (my proudest moment I’ve had is pulling off an omoplata on somebody in one of the huge sparring tournaments me and my friends have), and I’ve got a relatively fair deal of knowledge of submissions, but I’m looking to seriously devote myself to BJJ now. So, yeah, do either of you know of any places you can recommend to me? Thanks.

Caleb,

Thanks for the website info. The trainbjj.com website worked much easier for me. It showed an American Top Team location less than 10 miles from where I’m staying.

Fanatic,

The trainbjj.com site also showed a few BJJ places in Iowa. You might want to check it out. Personally, I’ve only been to Iowa a couple times and that was just passing through when driving across the country.

Iowa is a great place to train. I actually train out of the same camp Jeremy Stephens fights out of.

You do? Based on the way my cousin Brandon talks about Jeremy, I think he may know him. My cousin lives in the Des Moines area, so it seems possible that he does indeed know him to me. What camp might that be?

I’m not entirely sure that he knows him, I just make that assumption based on how he talks about Stephens. It could be that he has just seen him fight locally quite a few times.

It turns out that American Top Team has their headquarters just 20 minutes from where I’m staying and they offer private lessons on BJJ. Sweet!
